The University of Alberta is a research-intensive post-secondary ranked in the top five in Canada and top 150 in the world. The U of A leads with purpose and has a reputation for discovery, innovation and community and industry partnerships. U of A faculty and students have created almost 130 active spinoff companies. The university’s connections with post-secondary institutions around the world are strong and include 750 research and study agreements in 84 countries.

In the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject, U of A ranked No. 1 in Canada and top 10 globally for nursing and petroleum engineering. The university is also a global leader in research, knowledge translation and innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning, nanotechnology, energy systems, gender studies, precision health, agriculture and food production, smart buildings, transportation and devices.

The university is home to three colleges encompassing 13 faculties, plus five independent faculties — including North America’s only faculty devoted to Indigenous studies and research. Faculty work is amplified through more than 100 research centres and institutes. More than 43,000 students from 162 different countries study at five separate campuses, with a choice of more than 500 graduate programs and 200 undergraduate programs. Students take their learning outside the classroom by participating in more than 450 student groups, as well as experiential and international learning opportunities and community-engaged research.

The U of A’s vision is to inspire the human spirit and promote the public good. Its graduates are in the top five for employability in Canada, according to the 2022 QS Graduate Employability Rankings, with four out of five graduate students receiving job offers before they finish their degrees.
